Cracking the 3 PMP Domains: A Practical Breakdown

CertifyEdu Team1 min read

Understand what the three performance domains actually test and how to weight your study time.

The Three PMP Performance Domains

Since the 2021 update, the PMP exam is organised around three domains rather than process groups.

1. People (42%)

The largest domain, focusing on conflict management, team development, servant leadership, and motivating distributed teams.

The exam tests how you lead, not just what processes you follow.

2. Process (50%)

Covers both predictive and agile/hybrid approaches, risk management, procurement, and stakeholder engagement.

  • About half the questions use agile/hybrid scenarios
  • Know when to apply predictive vs adaptive methods

3. Business Environment (8%)

Strategic alignment, benefits realisation, and organisational change management.

💡 Tip: Study the Agile Practice Guide alongside PMBOK. Budget at least one full week for each domain.
